Happy International Women’s Day!
International Women’s Day is a global day of recognition celebrated in more than 100 countries.
National Women’s Day was organized as a result of a suggestion from Theresa Malkiel, an American Labor Activist. First held in 1909 in New York. The intention of the movement was to create unity and strength in numbers with the objective of tackling inequalities between the sexes.
On March 19, 1911, International Women’s Day was marked for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland by over a million people. But it wasn’t until 1977 that the United Nations General Assembly invited member states to declare March 8 as the United Nations Day for women’s rights and world peace.
In 2011, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day, 100 countries participated and celebrated.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we have designed Spotlight Pop Up! We recognize and celebrate the work that has been done to afford women the privileges currently held while acknowledging the hurdles that still need to be overcome to create equality globally.
Spotlight Pop Up will take place at the stunning Kostuik Gallery in Yaletown. This free event will allow guests to get professional portraits, now, for only $5. Portraits can be taken just for fun or used for professional purposes. Small business owners, artists, creatives, freelancers and young professionals can get that headshot needed to progress while paying it forward.
